OCT Advanced Eye Test in Winfield BC
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique which uses light waves to produce cross-section and three dimensional pictures of live human tissue, in this case the retina, the tissue lining the back of the eye. The layers of the retina can be visualized and measured which aids us, as your optometrists, in early diagnosis of diseases such as glaucoma, and retinal conditions like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. It is used specifically on the optic nerve and macula (central area of the retina).
From the patients’ point of view, they look into the instrument with one eye at a time, while remaining as still as possible for several seconds, similar to having a photograph taken. Patients are impressed by the detailed image which is produced. It provides so much more information than previously available, and allows us to see sub-surface details we could never have visualized in years past, at near microscopic resolution, higher resolution than even MRI or Ultrasound.
Lake Country Optometry is proud to include OCT with all (non-pediatric) comprehensive eye exams. OCT allows us to provide the best possible care to our patients and is considered the most advanced technology available in eye care today.
