Myopia Control

Myopia (or near-sightedness) is related to how an eyeball grows, can be related to heredity, and is influenced to some degree by environmental factors. High myopia increases a person’s lifetime risk of eye health problems (such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and cataracts), makes a person more dependent on glasses and contact lenses, and can limit the ability to participate in sports or other activities. Therefore, reducing the risk of myopia progression is an attempt to improve the quality of life, and future ocular health of your child.

At Lake Country Optometry, we offer the following treatment options for slowing myopia progression in children and teens: spectacle lenses and daily disposable contact lenses (both designed specifically for this purpose), and eyedrops used daily. To discuss whether your child is a good candidate for this treatment, please book an appointment for them with one of our doctors.
